IT’S 2019 PEOPLE!!
The era of “Time’s up” and everyone just discovered their voice.
October is just a few days away and I couldn’t be more excited! Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love dressing up each year.
While picking costumes I make sure it’s appropriate for what event or place I’m going to attend of course..
Like I said, it’s 2019. It’s best not to pick any costumes that might be offensive or get you in trouble later on in life. (ahem, Justin Trudeau!) For those that don’t follow the news, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was photographed when he was 29 years old wearing ‘black face’ for an event themed, “Arabian Nights”. Although he was extremely apologetic he did not recall how many times he actually painted his face black.
I get it, so many costumes now a days depict Indians and Mexicans but those with their unique touch go a little out of their way to create a different costume and sometimes it’s offensive.
It’s not ok to wear Indian headpieces, paint your face black or to wear a small mustache with a swastika. Men might think it’s funny to dress like women on Halloween but it may be seen as misogynist or even offensive to the LGBTQ community.
Although it might just be a holiday in which no one should really take that serious it’s important to consider everyone’s feelings prior to choosing a risky costume. By risky I also mean sexy. If you’re choosing a costume that’s going to show a lot of skin make sure you’ve prepared yourself to receive a lot of stares from both females and males.
It’s the night when you can dress as someone else and get away with it. Make it fun not problematic.
